hap (v.)

The last few days have been hard days, and as much as I've wanted to be happy I've been having a hard time. My brother Nathan always complains that hap isn't a word. He reasons that the verb that corresponds with the adjective shiney is to shine; so logically speaking there should be a verb that corresponds with the adjective happy and that verb should be to hap. I agree. I want to hap...actively. I started thinking about what happiness means to me. Two things come to mind, and both remind me of quotes by Elder Uchtdorf...

First, I like to make stuff. It makes me so happy to make something beautiful.

Elder Uchtdorf said, "As you take the normal opportunities of your daily life and create something of beauty and helpfulness, you improve not only the world around you but also the world within you."

Second, I love to be in love and to be loved. Sometimes I'm selfish and just want to feel loved, but I guess love doesn't work that way. I think it only truly makes you happy when you give it because thats what turns us into the people God wants us to be.

Quote #2:
"Love is the measure of our faith, the inspiration for our obedience, and the true altitude of our discipleship."
— Dieter F. Uchtdorf
I'm grateful for the many people God has given me to love...including "the latest model."

Emily, I've seen what, who, and how you love, I've seen the amazing woman you have become and can't imagine the woman you are continuing to become. With the love you give, I know your hap tank wont need filling for long. I love you, .....Also Hello! I can't believe how old John already looks! Tell him to slow down till I get there!!!!

It's wonderful to see some new pictures of the kids. John looks absolutely precious, and I love the pictures of both of them.

I have had a hard time feeling happy too, since Soren was born. It is hard to focus outward because all you want to do is turn inward to protect yourself. It's hard to get out of the cycle.

Emily, know that a lot of people love you very much. You are kind, you are thoughtful and you make whoever you are with or talking to feel like they are important. You have a beautiful smile and an amazing amount of courage and strength, even if you don't feel like it. You are loving to others and a good friend. I love you to the ends of the earth and I'm sure I know many other people who feel the same way.

Emily,
Just thinking of you and praying for you and your heart. There is much more "happing" (if I can follow your logic and make up a word) to be done in this life for you. All in its own time and season.

Those babies are too cute. Little John... what can I say he is ... heavenly.

Love,

Oh how I miss all of you! You definitely have made my life better Em, I guess you could call that something beautiful. I don't know how much you can see the impact you have on people, but you're truly a shining star. I love what Elder Uchtdorf said in that talk about how ANYTHING can be considered a creation- a smile even. We are made to create, and that and loving are what truly make us happy, or at least me.
Thanks for reminding me of that Em, I needed it.
Love you so much!
